bodyswaps: coming to better understand someone else's life (a friend? an enemy? an acquaintance? a romantic partner), struggling with a body or abilities that doesn't belong to you. I like this trope a lot and so I don't need an elaborate explanation for how it happened, unless that's something you want to write!

World Trigger (click to expand)

World Trigger

I love everything about World Trigger. I love the large cast of characters and the ways that their paths interact; it feels very realistic and richly drawn to me. I like the complicated battles and strategy. I like how each character has their own objectives, and they team up based on many factors, which might be any of: trying to get home, trying to impress a crush, wanting to earn money, trying not to die, trying to prevent others' deaths- the list goes on. The battles and battle mechanics fascinate me, too, and competency kink applies to every character I can think of! I will stay up to date with the manga.

Inukai Sumiharu/Kageura Masato

-I'm very into Kageura's Side Effect (and side effects in general) and how Inukai feels to him
-I love the dynamic where Kageura hates Inukai, but Inukai doesn't hate Kageura. Though Inukai does love to provoke Kageura at every turn, but that's just Inukai's personality :D
-I adored the moment when Kageura stabbed Inukai through the chest in the snow battle. That seemed personal. Also they're in the same-age group and share mutual friends, so are they ever forced to hang out in a group together? Or does Kageura's hate prevent him from even associating with Inukai? Maybe their friends play a prank on them and they're forced onto a pseudo-date together
-Body swap would mean that Inukai suddenly is faced with Kageura's painful Side Effect. How does he deal with this? Better or worse than Kageura does? How might Kageura reluctantly, eventually help Inukai cope? Also, do they teach each other how to be an Attacker/Gunner, or do they let the other fail miserably?
-Their away test mission team dynamic is hilarious and also interesting. What happens when they're sharing a room or a bed together? When they're on dinner duty? What about combat? They bicker during the day, but what do they do at night?

Hyuse/Jin Yuuichi

-Hyuse will accept help from Karasuma "but not Jin," according to his own words, which is really funny to me
-Jin went to a lot of efforts to keep Hyuse around. What has he foreseen? What has he not been able to see?
-What if Hyuse becomes obsessed with analyzing Jin to figure out his motives (Why did Jin really try so hard to get Hyuse onto Tamakoma-2?); accidentally ends up developing a crush or falling in love with Jin through getting to know him so well
-What if Hyuse didn't receive any sex education on Aftokrator and Jin has to explain/show some things to him
-Anything set during the away mission to Aftokrator, or on Aftokrator. How do they get there, and what happens once they're there?

Jin Yuuichi/Miwa Shuuji

-They've both lost people that they loved to Neighbors, but their outlooks are totally different, which I find interesting
-Miwa strongly dislikes Jin, but at the same time, Jin sent Miwa into an existential crisis after Miwa found out that Jin's mother was killed by Neighbors, yet Jin doesn't hate Neighbors. I think that Yoneya said something like this about Miwa: 'people used to always hate and kill Neighbors, but now they're saying the opposite, so Miwa's confused' and I wanted to know so much more
-Not friends with benefits, because they're not friends--but agents with benefits? Who would develop feelings first? Who already had feelings for the other before it even started?
-It was mentioned that Jin would train the other Fuujin candidates. How did Miwa react to this? How might they grow closer throughout the training?
-They keep being forced to work together, whether it's in the Galopoula invasion or the Large-Scale invasion, and Miwa's attitude seems to be softening towards Jin. How did that happen over time? Or is that just an illusion?

Inukai/Tsuji

-I can see Inukai bringing Tsuji out of his shell over time
-Comforting each other after Hatohara disappears
-Origin story of Ninomiya Unit - the dynamics of the squad when they first became one, up until now

Inukai & Wakamura
Hyuse & Wakamura
-The recent chapters with Wakamura have been very interesting. Inukai & Wakamura - why did Inukai take him on as a mentee? Wakamura can't remember, but what was Inukai talking to Wakamura about during those training sessions? Hyuse & Wakamura - how will they surprise each other, or fulfill expectations?
-Include all three in a scene if you like - though I can't imagine how that interaction would go, I am sure it would be fun to see.

Ninomiya Masataka/Yuba Takuma (World Trigger)
-I could watch their final showdown on repeat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk3DK36ANIo
-Two unit leaders, both serious but with very different approaches to leading their squads!
-I also feel there could be some latent sexual tension there

Alice in Borderland (click to expand)
Alice in Borderland
I've watched all of the TV show and read all of the manga - either canon is fine. You can assume that I will watch the 3rd season, which is coming out before this exchange ends. My favorite character is Chishiya. I love how sneaky and intelligent Chishiya is. I also love the games in Alice in Borderland, so more games are welcome.

Chishiya/Kuzuryu

-I like these two characters together because they are brilliant, and they both are searching for something that they can't find an answer to, and they have a drastic effect on each other's minds during the King of Diamonds game
-AU where Kuzuryuu doesn't die in their shared game, and they enter another game together (Queen of Diamonds? We never saw that one in the manga)
-The Beach executives don't trust Chishiya when he first finds them, so they imprison him. Kuzuryu is assigned (or volunteers?) to be his jailor.
-Kuzuryuu and Chishiya participating in a face card game (somehow, Kuzuryuu can still compete), or a tricky game while at the Beach
-Maybe they're in a game pretending to be on opposite sides, but they're actually working together the whole time. Or vice versa.
-Trapped together, either in a game or not
-Games, in general

Banda/Yaba

-I'm interested in both of them being evil together as citizens! Gleeful torture and sadism
-What roles do they assume as citizens? What sick games do they create together? Or separately?
-Each of them trying to outdo the other in creating twisted games
-Yaba being an investor/company VP and Banda being a literal serial killer amuses me when they're shown on a similar level of amorality
-Heavy dubcon between the two of them, in a power struggle type of way (but not in a "realistic noncon" way)
-Whatever happens in season 3, building on that

Aguni/Heiya
-I thought they were cute in the show and I liked that they slowly trusted each other (and even more in the manga)
-More of their wilderness times? Opening up to each other? Having brief moments of fun together?
-Post Borderland recovery together. How have they changed/changing as people?
-I'm not not interested in smut...

Dr. Stone (Anime) (click to expand)
Dr. Stone (Anime)
No spoilers for the manga please :) I will stay up to date with the currently airing anime. I don't think it will quite finish covering the manga by the time FIAB reveals, but we will see.
Senkuu is my favorite character!

Senkuu/Tsukasa
-Did Tsukasa really change his mind? Why or why not?
-Their conversations after Tsukasa is unfrozen. What are they like?
-Moral or ethical dilemmas
-Royalty AU where Senkuu and Tsukasa are actual warring kings (Fine to waive my "no setting AUs" for this prompt)
-Out of the three ships, this is the one I'd be most interested in smut for. Some ideas: first times, Senkuu experimenting (so to speak), anything where they experience discovery (D/s, light masochism?)

Senkuu/Gen
Gen's birthday surprise for Senkuu was so sweet. I love that it's a moment when Senkuu is the one being surprised and cared for. Gen is one of the few people who might be able to fool Senkuu, so how would he use this power for good?

White Christmas (K-drama) (click to expand)
White Christmas (K-drama)
One of my favorite shows ever please watch this. I am very interested in post-canon fic!
Also very interested in: What if Yohan was allowed to finish the sessions with their parents? Especially those we didn't meet - Jaekyu, Chihoon, and a long session with Youngjae (who was so terrified he tried to lock himself in) and/or Youngjae's parents. I've also wondered if Chihoon's parents decided not to come to the school when called.

Lots of spoilers below.

Chihoon/Jaekyu
-Chihoon protected Jaekyu, though Chihoon almost certainly didn't think of it that way. And Jaekyu protected Chihoon, by not turning himself in. But also... Jaekyu starts the series hating Chihoon, perhaps more than anyone. How does their relationship develop post-canon?

Chihoon/Muyeol
-Their enterprising trek where Chihoon's leg gets broken (thanks to Muyeol) and he is saved (also thanks to Muyeol) was so interesting! Muyeol had stored up so much resentment toward Chihoon, probably over hears
-Post-canon, Muyeol's obsession with Chihoon develops into something darker. Chihoon is indifferent, or amused?

Chihoon/Mireu
-Mireu's reaction to hearing that Chihoon had died - what happened in the past that made him think this way? Why did he have that reaction?
-Opposites attract: Mireu wants to understand Chihoon, but his methods of understanding are unorthodox.

Honkai Star Rail (click to expand)

Aventurine/Sunday
Aventurine is my favorite character, and I love his interactions with Sunday, another favorite of mine. They're very well-matched, each trying to manipulate each other (and those around them). They both seem like they're restraining themselves most of the time. Aventurine's tragic past, his passive death wish, combined with Sunday's controlling altruism, his reformed philosophy after Penacony - I just think they're so interesting, and I'd love to see their dynamic explored. Maybe Sunday, on his journey of repentance, decides he needs to make amends with Aventurine, but Aventurine disagrees - or has an interesting idea of what those amends should be. I also think they would have really great sex... whether it's before, during, or after the time period where Sunday sentenced Aventurine to death. Or in a canon divergence AU! Or what if Aventurine/the IPC decides to sue Sunday for personal damages, mostly out of spite, but it brings them closer together?

Other stuff
Prefer top Sunday/bottom Aventurine if it applies, but no preference on any other kinks or dynamics like D/s or other.
Aventurine's story is pretty dark, so references to past noncon during Aventurine's past when he was enslaved are fine but by no means required.
I also like Aventurine's friendship with Ratio and Sunday's bond with Robin + Astral Express in general. References to past Ratio/Aventurine or FWB Ratio/Aventurine are fine.

Genshin Impact(click to expand)

I forgot to nominate this so I'm just waiting for it to be added to the tagset, I requested it in late nominations!

I really like this as a V with Alhaitham/Cyno and Alhaitham/Kaveh, and him having different and distinct relationships with both of them. I'm open to interpretations of what this would look like! I think it's clear that Alhaitham /does/ care about Kaveh in canon, despite how fond I am of their petty arguments. And I think despite their initial antagonism, Alhaitham and Cyno work very smoothly together, like in Alhaitham's story quest.

Optional prompts
-I'm interested in seeing established relationship or pre-relationship and how one or both develop - but I'd rather that the fic not spend a lot of time on relationship negotiations or definitions.
-Curious about Alhaitham/Cyno leaning more or entirely romantic and Alhaitham/Kaveh leaning more or entirely sexual.
-Also prefer top Alhaitham if it applies.

[staff profile] denise posting in [site community profile] dw_news

I'll start with the tl;dr summary to make sure everyone sees it and then explain further: As of September 1, we will temporarily be forced to block access to Dreamwidth from all IP addresses that geolocate to Mississippi for legal reasons. This block will need to continue until we either win the legal case entirely, or the district court issues another injunction preventing Mississippi from enforcing their social media age verification and parental consent law against us.

Mississippi residents, we are so, so sorry. We really don't want to do this, but the legal fight we and Netchoice have been fighting for you had a temporary setback last week. We genuinely and honestly believe that we're going to win it in the end, but the Fifth Circuit appellate court said that the district judge was wrong to issue the preliminary injunction back in June that would have maintained the status quo and prevented the state from enforcing the law requiring any social media website (which is very broadly defined, and which we definitely qualify as) to deanonymize and age-verify all users and obtain parental permission from the parent of anyone under 18 who wants to open an account.

Netchoice took that appellate ruling up to the Supreme Court, who declined to overrule the Fifth Circuit with no explanation -- except for Justice Kavanaugh agreeing that we are likely to win the fight in the end, but saying that it's no big deal to let the state enforce the law in the meantime.

Needless to say, it's a big deal to let the state enforce the law in the meantime. The Mississippi law is a breathtaking state overreach: it forces us to verify the identity and age of every person who accesses Dreamwidth from the state of Mississippi and determine who's under the age of 18 by collecting identity documents, to save that highly personal and sensitive information, and then to obtain a permission slip from those users' parents to allow them to finish creating an account. It also forces us to change our moderation policies and stop anyone under 18 from accessing a wide variety of legal and beneficial speech because the state of Mississippi doesn't like it -- which, given the way Dreamwidth works, would mean blocking people from talking about those things at all. (And if you think you know exactly what kind of content the state of Mississippi doesn't like, you're absolutely right.)

Needless to say, we don't want to do that, either. Even if we wanted to, though, we can't: the resources it would take for us to build the systems that would let us do it are well beyond our capacity. You can read the sworn declaration I provided to the court for some examples of how unworkable these requirements are in practice. (That isn't even everything! The lawyers gave me a page limit!)

Unfortunately, the penalties for failing to comply with the Mississippi law are incredibly steep: fines of $10,000 per user from Mississippi who we don't have identity documents verifying age for, per incident -- which means every time someone from Mississippi loaded Dreamwidth, we'd potentially owe Mississippi $10,000. Even a single $10,000 fine would be rough for us, but the per-user, per-incident nature of the actual fine structure is an existential threat. And because we're part of the organization suing Mississippi over it, and were explicitly named in the now-overturned preliminary injunction, we think the risk of the state deciding to engage in retaliatory prosecution while the full legal challenge continues to work its way through the courts is a lot higher than we're comfortable with. Mississippi has been itching to issue those fines for a while, and while normally we wouldn't worry much because we're a small and obscure site, the fact that we've been yelling at them in court about the law being unconstitutional means the chance of them lumping us in with the big social media giants and trying to fine us is just too high for us to want to risk it. (The excellent lawyers we've been working with are Netchoice's lawyers, not ours!)

All of this means we've made the extremely painful decision that our only possible option for the time being is to block Mississippi IP addresses from accessing Dreamwidth, until we win the case. (And I repeat: I am absolutely incredibly confident we'll win the case. And apparently Justice Kavanaugh agrees!) I repeat: I am so, so sorry. This is the last thing we wanted to do, and I've been fighting my ass off for the last three years to prevent it. But, as everyone who follows the legal system knows, the Fifth Circuit is gonna do what it's gonna do, whether or not what they want to do has any relationship to the actual law.

We don't collect geolocation information ourselves, and we have no idea which of our users are residents of Mississippi. (We also don't want to know that, unless you choose to tell us.) Because of that, and because access to highly accurate geolocation databases is extremely expensive, our only option is to use our network provider's geolocation-based blocking to prevent connections from IP addresses they identify as being from Mississippi from even reaching Dreamwidth in the first place. I have no idea how accurate their geolocation is, and it's possible that some people not in Mississippi might also be affected by this block. (The inaccuracy of geolocation is only, like, the 27th most important reason on the list of "why this law is practically impossible for any site to comply with, much less a tiny site like us".)

If your IP address is identified as coming from Mississippi, beginning on September 1, you'll see a shorter, simpler version of this message and be unable to proceed to the site itself. If you would otherwise be affected, but you have a VPN or proxy service that masks your IP address and changes where your connection appears to come from, you won't get the block message, and you can keep using Dreamwidth the way you usually would.

On a completely unrelated note while I have you all here, have I mentioned lately that I really like ProtonVPN's service, privacy practices, and pricing? They also have a free tier available that, although limited to one device, has no ads or data caps and doesn't log your activity, unlike most of the free VPN services out there. VPNs are an excellent privacy and security tool that every user of the internet should be familiar with! We aren't affiliated with Proton and we don't get any kickbacks if you sign up with them, but I'm a satisfied customer and I wanted to take this chance to let you know that.

Again, we're so incredibly sorry to have to make this announcement, and I personally promise you that I will continue to fight this law, and all of the others like it that various states are passing, with every inch of the New Jersey-bred stubborn fightiness you've come to know and love over the last 16 years. The instant we think it's less legally risky for us to allow connections from Mississippi IP addresses, we'll undo the block and let you know.
